Civilian Casualties, Injuries, Arrests, Damages and IDPs

in Ethnic State Areas

(August to October 2021)

Due to the attacks of Junta troops in ethnic areas, civilian casualties, injuries, loss of properties, displacement situations in each state are reported from August to October as below.

  • Kachin State

At least 4 civilians were killed and 13 got injuries in fighting in Kachin State in the past three months. More than 12450 have been displaced in Kachin state since the coup.

  • Kayah State

Fighting since the coup has forced more than 110,200 local Karenni people to flee their homes. At least 31 civilians were killed and at least 59 were injured within the three months period of armed conflicts. In addition, at least 136 houses of local people were burnt and destroyed and at least 49 civilians were observed to be arrested.

  • Kayin State

It is reported that fighting between August and October killed at least 3, injured 21 and arrested 10 civilians in Kayin state. The armed conflict has displaced over 60,050 local Kayin people since the coup.

  • Chin State

More than 60,000 civilians have been displaced by the fighting in Chin State since the coup [about 20 per cent of Chin State population has been estimated to have fled homes]. It is reported that fighting between August and October left at least six civilians dead, 26 wounded and at least 10 arrested. Within three months, about 400 houses in various townships and villages in Chin State were set on fire by SAC’s troops- a)     From 19 to 23 October, 107 houses were destroyed in villages along the road between Mindat and Matupi;b)     In the third week of October, 100 houses were destroyed in Ramthlo and Tlangzar villages in Falam Township. c)     On 14 October, Falam Township, twelve houses were set on fire in Taal village.d)  On 14 October, in Falam Township, twelve houses, including a church, were set on fire in Rialti village. e)     On 29 October, 163 houses and two churches in Thantlang were set on fire by artillery shelling by the SAC’s troops. Again, it is observed that at least 10 more houses were set on fire a week later.

  • Mon State

It is reported that at least two civilians were killed, and 8 civilians were injured due to arm clashes in Mon State from the period between August to October, and the other 312 civilians got arrested in the state. No displacement of local Mon people is reported yet.

  • Shan State

Between August and October, fighting left at least 11 civilians dead, injuring 18 and arresting at least five others in Shan State. Fighting since the coup has displaced more than 20,210 people from their homes.
